Healing: The Beautiful, Ongoing Journey
When you go through a divorce, people always ask you if you have healed. It’s not such a simple answer. I would love to wrap it up with a bow and say, “Yes, I’m stronger than I’ve ever been.” Most days, that’s actually true. However, there are moments when I can’t raise my hand. My experience is that healing is truly an ongoing process.
To say that my healing journey is continuous doesn’t mean that I’m in a constant battle for peace and happiness. I’m happy. No, I’m very happy, to be exact. I wake up singing and dancing and expressing gratitude for the lessons I learned within the last 24 hours. I love my big life with all of its movement and texture. I get to share it with people who love me and my interesting way of living life out loud.
There are moments, songs, and words that carry me back to times when I’m reminded that life wasn’t always peaceful. It’s like being transported back into the chaos of some past time.
Sit with it? No.
Change only comes after acknowledgment of an issue. Then there is the task of understanding why it has revisited me and what should be done to get through it. There is a lesson here. Don’t bypass it. Unlike before, I see it, and I understand that I must act in my best interest. I’m my best advocate.
That’s what healing in action looks like. You get to choose yourself and what aligns with the version of you that has moved on. Sometimes peace and clarity come with making difficult decisions. That is where you can not only live but thrive.
I’m always restructuring and reorganizing. Every single version of us deserves a new way of handling life. So, essentially, we should be in a constant state of healing and growth, renewing the commitment to being happy and healed.
Healing is not a one-time occurrence. It’s a sunrise and sunset that realigns us time and time again. It’s a beautiful process that keeps us true to ourselves.
